Dr. H. C. Jaime Lucero
President & founder of Fuerza Migrante
Mexican migrant businessman born in Independencia, Puebla Mexico on May 12, 1957.
Lived, studied up to high school level and worked in Mexico City from the age of 9 to 18 years old, to later emigrate to the United States looking for an opportunity to improve his and his family's living conditions. He arrived in New York City in 1973 like millions of other millions of migrants: unable to speak English and undocumented. Today he owns one of the most successful logistics companies in the Northeastern United States, Gold and Silver Inc.
He is the founding president of Casa Puebla New York, an NGO that was active for 43 years and was the basis for the formation of more than 80 non-profit organizations that currently serve the needs of the Latino community in areas such as culture, health, education and women's empowerment; in addition to founding more than 8 chapters of Chambers of Commerce that allow coordinating the efforts of the Mexican business sector in the United States.
For more than 8 years he chaired the Guadalupe Committee of the Archdiocese of New York.
He invested more than $20 million dollars in Puebla, Mexico to generate 5,000 jobs in the textile industry, for this the New York Times described him as \"a pioneering immigrant\" for initiating projects that generate jobs and educational opportunities in New York and Mexico.
In 2015, the Mexican government awarded him the Ohtli Nacional, an award for his valuable contributions to empowering the Mexican community abroad.
Lehman College of CUNY also wanted to give value to his social service and in 2015 awarded him the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa, making Don Jaime Lucero the first Mexican to receive that distinction by that house of studies.
In New York, the city's Mayor Bill de Blasio; recognized him in 2016 as \"an entrepreneur, a leader, a driver of education and a philanthropist who exemplifies the city's global spirit of generosity because he is paving the way for other young Mexican New Yorkers to reach their full potential.\"
Thanks to the work of Don Jaime Lucero, Mexican students and students of Hispanic origin from 8 different countries have had and continue to have access to college education; professionalization seminars and are engaged in community service at a non-profit institution to raise awareness of the importance of their social participation and involvement.
On December 10, 2019, he convenes leadership from different parts of the United States to create the Fuerza Migrante (FM) Binational Council, a binational movement that seeks to empower the Mexican community living abroad through education.
Fuerza Migrante is the most recent chapter in Don Jaime's story. With his leadership, a binational educational platform is being created that integrates an educational offer focused on meeting the demand from the migrant community, their families in Mexico and second and third generation Mexicans in the US. In the first stage, more than 20 collaboration agreements have been reached with different public and private educational institutions in Mexico and the United States.
On December 1, 2022, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) presented him with the "Alonso García Robles" award, Nobel Peace Prize in 1982, for his work in defense, promotion, protection and guarantee of the human rights of migrants.
